Cinematic: Captain Blood

8 comments:

  1. One of my favorite movies. I recently found out that there were two more Captain Blood films (based, I understand, on the continuations that Sabatini wrote), but haven't had a chance to see them yet.

    1. I saw Fortunes of Captain Blood many years ago. It starred Louis Hayward who earlier appeared in The Man in the Iron Mask. It's a credible swashbuckler.

    2. Have you seen Captain Pirate, the third Peter Blood film (based on Captain Blood Returns, apparently)? It also has Louis Hayward as Blood.

    3. No, I haven't. I think I'll email TCM and see if they have the rights to all three - that would make a good pirate feature.

  2. I just read (and loved) the first novel.

    1. I think Captain Blood is better written than The Sea-Hawk, but I still prefer the latter.

I'd also recommend Bardelys the Magnificent, both the novel and the movie.

    2. I have a copy of The Sea-Hawk which includes stills from the silent film. A marketing tie-in from the 1920s!
